چکیده

We study the picture space X (G) of all embeddings of a finite graph G as point-andline arrangements in an arbitrary-dimensional projective space, continuing previous work on the planar case. The picture space admits a natural decomposition into smooth quasiprojective subvarieties called cellules, indexed by partitions of the vertex set of G, and the irreducible components of X (G) correspond to cellules that are maximal with respect to a partial order on partitions that is in general weaker than refinement. We study both general properties of this partial order and its characterization for specific graphs. Our results include complete combinatorial descriptions of the irreducible components of the picture spaces of complete graphs and complete multipartite graphs, for any ambient dimension d. In addition, we give two graph-theoretic formulas for the minimum ambient dimension in which the directions of edges in an embedding of G are mutually constrained.

The metric dimension and girth of graphs

A set $Wsubseteq V(G)$ is called a resolving set for $G$, if for each two distinct vertices $u,vin V(G)$ there exists $win W$ such that $d(u,w)neq d(v,w)$, where $d(x,y)$ is the distance between the vertices $x$ and $y$. The minimum cardinality of a resolving set for $G$ is called the metric dimension of $G$, and denoted by $dim(G)$. In this paper, it is proved that in a connected graph $...

Kac conjecture from Nakajima quiver varieties

We prove a generating function formula for the Betti numbers of Nakajima quiver varieties. We prove that it is a q-deformation of the Weyl-Kac character formula. In particular this implies that the constant term of the polynomial counting the number of absolutely indecomposable representations of a quiver equals the multiplicity of a a certain weight in the corresponding Kac-Moody algebra, whic...

Factorial threefolds with Ga-actions

The affine cancellation problem, which asks whether complex affine varieties with isomorphic cylinders are themselves isomorphic, has a positive solution for two dimensional varieties whose coordinate rings are unique factorization domains, in particular for C, but counterexamples are found within normal surfaces (Danielewski surfaces) and factorial threefolds of logarithmic Kodaira dimension e...

Introduction: Graph theoretical analysis of functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) data has provided new measures of mapping human brain in vivo. Of all methods to measure the functional connectivity between regions, Linear Correlation (LC) calculation of activity time series of the brain regions as a linear measure is considered the most ubiquitous one. The strength of the dependence obl...
